TilersForums.co.uk has supported the tiling training industry right across the UK since 2006. The owner of Tilers Forums used to teach tiling when he created Professional-ITT.
PITT was the first independent training centre for tiling, that wasn’t an adhesive company just hoping to get tilers hooked on their brands.
Ever since, Tilers Forums UK has supported all training centres. And these are the discussion threads.
- Hi, Soon to lay 500mm sq tiles onto screeded hall/kitchen floor 25m2. Hall floor has vinyl tiles stuck to screed. Should I remove vinyl and adhesive then prime and slc or slc over adhesive? There is a 5mm dip just in front of the front door so need to level that anyway. The screed down now is 20 years old, no cracks, looks good, what is your advice on whether decoupling membrane is needed too? Thanks in advance for any advice you offer 👍 Matt
- I'm looking for wickes 300mm x 500mm mayfield riven beige supplied in 2016 if anybody could help out. Thanks
- In short: would using some expanding foam behind 2 tiles that have a small amount of flex, where I presume adhesive has partially de-bonded help fill the void and re-glue the to tile to breeze block? Or inject some kind of adhesive/Silicon to where i can get to with grout removal? The long: Had tiling done in new bathroom 2.5 years ago. Noticed a small hair line crack on sections of 2 tiles horizontals, scraped out partially and refilled – Now done this twice and see it's cracked again. It appears there is a small amount of flex on two […]

- Hi, Im tiling the bottom third of the bathroom wall in a straight herringbone (where the tiles are horizontal and vertical rather than on a 45 degree). Im just wondering where to start to make sure the patter doesnt look odd, start in the middle as normal and work out or start in the top corner and have the smaller cuts on the bottom? Also I need to go around a window reveal and a internal corner so wondering how the pattern carries on around these types of corners. The tiles im using are 300×100 so theres 3 vertical tiles […]
- Please advise me on a sealer or two. I've had white porcelain tiles with light grey grout laid for 4/5 months & the grout had darkened & the tiles are difficult to clean. Once sealed, I do plan on getting a kitchen runner. I read a review on Amazon for LTP H20 sealer & the image left me worried. There is the spirit/solvent based one but I'd rather use a water based one if possible, but would consider solvent. I've also been looking at Tile Doctor Ultra Seal but can't find any reviews, & also Lithofin sealers. I may use […]

- Hi everyone, I'm not a regular tiler, just someone who is trying to fix up a few rooms around the house. I have a little bit of experience though, as I tiled my bathroom a few years back with a friend's cutter. I recently bought a Rubi HIT850N as it was a large cutter and on offer. Unfortunately, I noticed during cutting that the scored line deviates approx. 2 mm over the length of a 60 cm tile. I checked all the cuts I made, and this was not a one off. In addition, looking at the top rubber section […]
- Hi guys Wondering if anyone can help, I’m a home owner who is doing his bathrooms used a tile I bought 2 years ago but for various reasons didn’t use straight away.unfortunately I am a box short so need the onyx silt 60×60 Indian tile. I have attached pictures and batch number. If anyone can help source as I’m having a nightmare. I’ve been told they’ve been discontinued!! Any help would be grateful. Thanks.
- Electric tile cutter vs Manual tile cutter. What's the best cutter for professional tilers?
- Hi – I'm laying hardiebacker on top of green chipboard. I have a load of Mapei Primer G left over so can I use this to prime the chipboard before I put down adhesive and screw on the hardiebacker? I've heard acrylic or sbr is best suited..but primer G does say it can be used on chipboard..

- We had a wet room fitted by a large company. We have issues with a few large steps where the gradient isn’t smooth so you can stump your toe. They sent a wet room fitter round to report, but the first 2 were general bathroom fitters who didn’t know about wet rooms. One even attempted to grind down the tiles causing damaged to the top of some of the mosaic tiles. Finally when the 3rd fitter came who was a wet room fitter they also pointed out two deep foot indentations where the fitter stood to fit the shower whist […]
- Hi, I'm looking for some advice on the best method to level my ensuite floor. The floor is green chipboard over joists. Chipboard is screwed and glued and very secure. Stud walls over the top so no chance/appetite of taking it up to sister joists. The floor is flat but not 100% level, if it wasn't for the fact we have a shower tray that needs to be installed on top of the finished tile I wouldn't care about making it perfectly level. Shower tray is very low profile and the edges sit on finished tile while bottom of tray […]
- I'm doing a cleanup / restoration of an old Art 4.A Sigma cutter and it's missing the top screw in the handle (Yellow Arrow in image) Handle part number is # Art 24AE I can see on the part image it is a hex screw. Without this screw the 10mm cutout slot in the cutter handle just drags along the top of the bar. Also there's another lower hex screw behind the scribing wheel (Red Arrow in image) that has a round metal collar that is worn flat and won't spin freely. (second image) Is that where the replacement bearing […]
- Hi there, we have just installed a Hetta UFH system.. they recommend a 6mm plywood over the top before tiling. I called them and they admitted that ply is a poor conductor. Does anyone have any experience with cement board (such as Hardie backer or similar) to improve thermal transfer in these cases? Screed not possible. Many thanks
- Hi all Quick question. Just starting to tile my floor using an 8mm trowel. Do I apply the adhesive to the tile or floor? Is the 8mm trowel ok? thanks Chris
- I bought a 'retired' (dirty and beat up) Sigma Art- 4.A I got it pretty cheap with the intention of just doing a bathroom or two and that's it. But this thing is beat and has seen many years of battle hardened commercial use. Caked in cement and glue and I'm trying to revive it. the rubber feet are worn off completely it sits on its bare base now. Just wondering when pro's retire their sigma gear what makes them give up on a cutter? what tends to fail ? is it just the bar that doesn't run smooth anymore? […]
- Which Tile Adhesive and grout brand did you use the most in the last 12 months? And also, reply to the thread with where you source the adhesive please? I realise that sometimes your first choice adhesive brand may not be locally available or your grout brand is different to your adhesive. In those cases vote for the adhesive brand you used most as by weight you'd have used far more adhesive than grout over the 12 months. Edit 24th October 24 You can now vote for 2 or even 3 brands if you do genuinely use more than […]
